Natroma is pleased to be a stockist of Beebombs!
Did you know that 97% of our natural bee and butterfly habitat has been lost in the UK since WW2? 97%! That’s scary, and no wonder our bees, butterflies and insects are struggling.
As you can imagine as aromatherapists we love growing herbs and fragrant plants in our garden, but so many gardens do not contain the types of plants that our native pollinators need. During the summer months our garden is filled with the gentle hum of bumblebees as they visit our bee friendly plants (they are so relaxing to watch). So we were delighted to see that Beebombs have been created as a way to start to restore the lost wildflower habitat and make an important contribution to the biodiversity of Great Britain. They are a brilliant way of attracting native bees and butterfly species to your garden.
Beebombs are handmade wildflower seedballs. They are made from sheltering clay and sifted top soil, packed with 1000s of seeds from native wildflower species. 1 pack provides coverage for roughly 21 sq ft / 2m². They are handmade in Dorset and contain a a mix of 18 British wildflower seeds, fine, sifted soil and locally sourced clay. The seeds are native species and designated by the Royal Horticultural Society as "Perfect for Pollinators". The plant species include: corn chamomile, cornflower, common poppy, red campion, white campion, salad burnet, common sorrel, yellow rattle, corn marigold, self heal, cowslip, ribwort plantain, oxeye daisy, rough hawkbit, lady’s bedstraw, wild carrot, common knapweed, yarrow.
Beebombs just need to be scattered onto cleared ground to create a wildflower meadow. Beebombs need no gardening skills and can be scattered straight onto open ground at any time of the year (although Spring, Summer and Autumn are best). Once scattered, you don't need to water or tend your Beebombs. They are best scattered onto a cleared patch of ground rather than into a lawn, since wildflowers are hardy and adaptable but tend to be slow growers. This means that they can be out-competed by faster growing lawn grasses and perennial weeds at the critical early stages, so straight onto soil is best if possible. The soil will help your Beebombs germinate and the clay will protect them as they dissipate. They will grow best in a spot that receives plenty of sun and water.
These native wild flowers also look wonderful when grown in pots. Remember these seeds are a mixture of annuals and perennials (they’ll flower in the 2nd year), so be patient and you’ll see more flowers and hopefully lots of bees as the plants mature.
Beebombs are supplied in a lovely hessian bag, and make thoughtful eco gifts!
