Handmade Fused Glass Soap Dishes

After spending years looking for pretty glass soap dishes for our handmade natural soaps ...we gave up!  The problem was that the soap dishes we found did not have the correct drainage or shape to allow our handmade goat's milk soaps to dry out between uses.  Our aromatherapy soaps have a hard, long-lasting formulation, but we'd be the first to admit that they'll struggle to remain hard if they're left sitting in a pool of water.  So if you ever notice that your soap is getting a soggy bottom (!) the chances are that you're using the wrong shaped soap dish.

So after giving up on ever finding the right soap dish, we decided to take a different approach....and bought a kiln! Yes, in the end, it was easier to take up glass fusing and start to design our own soap dishes.  We now have the ability to make a variety of glass soap dishes, that are the perfect size for our soaps, and are free draining so our soap lasts for longer. These are the first of our glass soap dish designs, but more will follow.

Our slatted soap dish is the perfect size for our full sized goat's milk soap bars.  Each dish has 8 glass slats running across the surface, and these support the soap bar between uses.  The flat design means that the soap won't slide around or fall off the dish.  We've made sure there are enough slats to accommodate a full sized bar, but they're close enough together to support the bar as it shrinks with use.

Approximate Size: 11cm x 8cm x 1cm tall (including rubber feet)

Please see images to get an idea of the colours available, but remember that each dish will be slightly different because it is handmade.  Each dish has been photographed inside with overhead lights, but the colours will vary on different computer screens.  Please be reassured our dishes are a rectangular shape - sometimes images look slightly distorted depending on the camera angle.  These dishes are handmade so each will be unique and there may be slight surface variations/minor imperfections due to the way the glass melted during the fusing process.

Standard colours - we make several of these at a time so the dish will be similar to the image but may not be the exact dish that was photographed.

Pink - variegated pale and darker pink and white marbled/swirled effect.

Black and White - a mixture of black and white - a black base colour with white stripes and swirls.

Blue - variegated pale and darker blue and white marbled/swirled effect.

Chakra - white surround with 6 coloured slats in pale purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, ruby red.

Green (Pale) - pastel solid green with pale/white marbling.

Lavender - blue/deep lilac colour with white marbled/swirled effect.

Turquoise - variegated turquoise with white in a marbled/swirled effect.  (See square dishes image for colour).

Unique dishes - one offs handmade with special edition glass, you will receive the soap dish in the image.

Black White 1 - special edition glass soap dish, mainly black with white swirls.

Black White 2 - special edition glass soap dish with broad white swirls against black.

Black White 3 - special edition glass soap dish, mainly black with some white bands.

Teal Beige - special edition dish with teal green and shades of beige brown swirls against white.

Each soap dish is made by hand using special art glass.  We carefully cut the glass and assemble each soap dish before firing it in the kiln for approximately 17 hours.  The glass reaches around 800OC while it is in the kiln which allows the glass to fuse together and become polished, before it is carefully cooled down again.  Sometimes we use a 2nd kiln firing to slump the glass into a mould to create a curved dish shape.  Every soap dish will be completely unique since we are using art glass (every sheet of glass will be different) and can never guarantee how the shape and pattern will change during the firing process.  As a courtesy we have added smaller rubber feet to the base of each dish.  This lifts up the glass by about 3mm, to ensure the dish drains freely.  Please be aware that it is very difficult to permanently stick anything to a glass surface, so over time these feet may loosen (particularly if the dish is left sitting in water). We'd recommend that you periodically wipe your soap dish and remove any dried soap from the glass surface.

Our handmade fused glass soap dishes are wrapped in tissue paper and corrugated card to keep them safe whilst in transit.  There is the option to upgrade the packaging to a gift box (cardboard with a lift off lid, wrapped with paper raffia) and we'll include a free mini soap.

A really colourful soap dish that's in a "glass" of it's own.
