We make these Lavender home fragrance floral sprays, from Lavender hydrolat. These are true hydrolats so are the water that is produced during the steam distillation of Lavender essential oil. The distillation produces a pure water that contains the dissolved parts of the plant, so ours contains lavendula angustifolia and has a subtle Lavender aroma. It does not smell as strong as when Lavender essential oil is dispersed through water (many room and pillow sprays are water with a few drops of essential oil dispersed with an emulsifier).
We were asked for these by customers, and were shocked to see the price of commercial pillow sprays. So we have produced a much more natural and affordable spray for use around the home and as a natural Lavender sleep pillow mist. Simply spritz in the air just before bedtime, to give a subtle aroma of Lavender to encourage relaxation and a good nights sleep. Many customers are unaware that Lavender is actually quite stimulating. So when they tell us that they sprinkle pure Lavender essential oil onto their pillow, we have to advise them that it's not a good idea. Firstly, we would not recommend sprinkling essential oils onto bed linen since the oil could come into contact with the skin or the eyes (essential oils should always be diluted). Used in this way, the Lavender essential oil would be too stimulating (and could stain your bed linens) and this may lead to a poor nights sleep. Lavender needs to be used very sparingly when you are seeking relaxation and sleep. Research in hospitals has shown that subtle levels of Lavender essential oil can enhance feelings of calm and aids relaxation. We'd suggest using just one drop of Lavender essential oil on a cotton pad by the side of the bed, and remove the pad from the room if the smell is too strong. So if you find that you're over using your Lavender essential oil, then the Lavender hydrolat spray may be a useful alternative as a sleep pillow mist.
These Lavender home fragrance hydrolat sprays may also be used as a room spray or to lightly spritz onto linens whilst ironing (but test an inconspicuous piece of the fabric first, avoiding delicate items to ensure there is no risk of damage or staining). We do not advise adding to the water tank of steam irons.
We must stress this is not a cosmetic product, and is for home fragrancing use only. It is not intended for use on the skin, but please be reassured that it does contains mild, skin-kind ingredients. Because we have used a natural hydrolat, we have added a small amount of preservative and an emulsifier (to mix the preservative with the hydrolat). We have done this because, hydrolats are very delicate so they usually need to be refridgerated and used very quickly. In this way, the room spray will last for longer and can be kept at room temperature, although we still recommend it is used within 6 months of opening.
Ingredients: Lavendula angustifolia and aqua, polysorbate 20 (mild emulsifier), phenoxyethanol ethylhexylglycerine (preservative).
