Information

Natroma advise customers to research each essential oil, before attempting to use on the skin (diluted in a suitable carrier).  The following is for guidance only, and makes no medical recommendations:

* Important please read contra-indication advice before ordering these essential oils.

Mandarin citrus reticulate

Mandarin is a lovely sweet citrus oil that's a favourite with children.  It is uplifting but calming so encourages relaxation and is a nice choice for a relaxing evening blend in an aromatherapy diffuser.  It's light aroma is useful for nausea and mild digestive upsets, and is often added into skincare blends to support the prevention of stretch marks.

Marjoram sweet origanum marjorana *

Sweet marjoram is another favourite oil of ours since it has a mild aroma but is very useful for aromatherapy massages for muscular aches and pains.  It gently relaxes the muscles without overwhelming a blend, and can support migraines and headaches that are caused by tension.  Is indicated for hypertension, but should be avoided during pregnancy.

Myrrh commiphora myrrha *

Myrrh has a rich musky aroma and was traditionally used for mouth infections.  In aromatherapy it supports chapped and damaged skin conditions.  Avoid during pregnancy.

Myrtle myrtus communis

Myrtle has a pleasant mild aroma, that's slightly balsamic.  It's a gentle respiratory essential oil that supports asthma and coughs.

Neroli citrus aurantium var. amara - available in 2ml and 5ml sizes

Beautiful Neroli is the steam distilled blossoms of the bitter orange tree, with it's light but beautifully fragranced aroma, it's one of our favourite essential oils and appears in many of our facial skincare products.  Neroli's aroma is relaxing and calming but also uplifting, which is why it's regularly used in our aromatherapy treatments.  Neroli has a lovely affinity with the skin, suiting most skin types, and is wonderful when a few drops are added to a bath blend.  Neroli is another quite expensive essential oil (but so worth it!), and we sell the pure 100% essential oil that hasn't been pre-diluted in a carrier oil.

Orange sweet citrus sinensis*

Sweet and refreshing, orange is reputed to have anti-inflammatory and anti-depressant qualities.  It's often a good choice for sweetening an essential oil blend and the fresh aroma seems to be well-liked by children..  Is mildly phototoxic (can cause some skin-types to burn more easily) so avoid sun or sun lamp exposure for at least 2 hours if used on paler sensitive skin types.

Palmarosa cymbopogon martini

Palmarosa has a gentle rosy aroma that is both calming and uplifting making it a good choice to use when encouraging a sense of calm after anxiety or stress.  It's also a lovely essential oil for natural skincare, reputed to support skin that has scars or wrinkles.

Patchouli pogostemom cablin

The earthy aroma of the 1960's seems to be a little like marmite - people either love it or hate it!  It's a very versatile oil, that's reputed to be helpful for calming troubled skin and also has diuretic properties which can be helpful when the skin is congested.  It's soothing earthy aroma can be lovely as part of a blend, and is said to be a good choice in times of stress.

Peppermint mentha piperita *

Antiseptic and analgesic, peppermint has a strong penetrating minty aroma.  It has a long reputation for being a digestive tonic, so is used in low concentrations in aromatherapy massages for digestive issues.  It is a strong stimulating oil, with decongestant properties.  Use in low dilutions and take extra care when pregnant.

Petitgrain citrus aurantium

Petitgrain comes from the twigs of the orange tree, so is less fragrant than it's much more expensive cousin Neroli.  But it still has a lovely dry citrus aroma that's very pleasant in an aromatherapy blend.  is said to be a skin-tonic, and supports fatigue and stress.

Pine needle pinus sylvestris *

Has a dry stimulating pine aroma, which is decongestant and supports coughs and colds.  May also be used in aromatherapy massage in low dilutions for muscular aches and pains.  Take extra care when using during pregnancy.

Additional Details

Our aromatherapy grade essential oils are supplied in generous 10ml sized amber glass bottles to extend their shelf life, fitted with a dropper attachment.  Our prices reflect the varying costs associated with producing different types of essential oil and are subject to change.  Our oils are suitable for creating home massage blends (they must be diluted in a suitable carrier oil), in the bath (again diluted in a carrier oil before adding to the water) or for vaporisation in an oil burner or for adding to our fragrant decorations

Each bottle is supplied with a leaflet which gives important safety information including recommended dilutions and contra-indications for each oil.

We do not recommend that essential oils are applied neat to the skin (except for a couple of oils in emergency situations), and bottles should be stored cool, dark and away from children or animals. Never ingest essential oils - this is dangerous and can cause long term harm / poisoning.  Dispose of old and unused essential oils carefully (never pour down the sink), since when fully concentrated most are hazardous to the environment.

Remember that essential oils are volatile and some can be highly flammable (some have a low flash point), so do not leave items that have essential oils dripped on them near to ignition sources or in direct sunlight.   Do not drip essential oils onto fabric, since it can create a fire hazard if fabrics are not thoroughly cleaned at 60C in a washing machine.  Do not tumble dry fabrics with essential oils since there have been instances of house fires being caused by essential oils igniting inside the tumble drier when it reaches high drying temperatures.

Neat essential oils are extremely concentrated, so wipe away any spillages immediately since they may damage polished and natural surfaces.  Always wash your hands after handling essential oils.

Take extra care when selecting and using essential oils during pregnancy, and where there are pre-existing health conditions.

Please note that citrus essential oils oxidise quickly, so have a shorter shelf life than other essential oils.  Older citrus oils will still be fine to use in oil burners, but caution should be exercised with skin application.

Not really used this yet - but passes the sniff test! I think I may add a few drops to some absorbent objects in the conservatory.
